Artist Thom Blaylock captures more than a simple likeness in his paintings. He expresses the spirit of the subject. Thom works from snapshots of his models because he knows he can not realistically expect a child to sit for as long as it would take to sketch the image. He also feels that posed pictures or portraits constrict the essence of the subject. It is this essence that Thom so magically captures in his art.
